Built Around the Realities of Base & Rover Surveying


As GNSS correction networks continue to expand around the world, many surveyors can now complete RTK surveys through CORS services with minimal setup.


But that isn't the whole picture.


There areas still operate beyond reliable network coverage. Such as, large construction sites, mountainous regions, mining operations, forestry projects, remote infrastructure, and rural areas. In these environments, survey teams continue to rely on Base and Rover workflows every day.


For them, the base station is more than just another piece of equipment—it is the foundation of the entire survey.

Unfortunately, traditional RTK base stations often become the weakest part of the workflow.



The Problems Begin in the Field


For typical base station and mobile station surveying it's the most important that keep a stable communication between the base station and the rover.


This connection is usually established in one of two ways.

  • Internet-based correction services
  • Radio communication

Network corrections work well where cellular coverage is stable. However, in remote regions, mountainous terrain, forests or large construction sites, network availability is often inconsistent or unavailable.


That leaves radio communication as the most dependable option.

But conventional integrated radio RTKs introduce another set of challenges.

Every surveyor has experienced it.

After reaching the edge of the radio coverage area, work comes to a stop.

The crew must return to the base station, relocate it, reinitialize the survey, and then continue working.Instead of collecting data, valuable time is spent walking back and forth.As project areas grow larger, these interruptions become increasingly costly.



Signal Loss in Challenging Environments

Radio specifications rarely tell the whole story.

Dense vegetation, buildings, bridges and mountainous terrain can significantly reduce effective communication distance.Even if the theoretical range appears sufficient, real-world performance often falls well below expectations when obstacles block the signal path.The result is unstable corrections, interrupted workflows and repeated measurements.



Battery Life Limits Productivity

Long-range radio transmission demands more power.

Traditional base stations frequently require battery replacement before the working day is complete.Every battery change means returning to the base station, interrupting measurements and losing productive survey time.For crews working in remote locations, these unnecessary trips quickly become a burden.



Listening Before Designing


When developing Alpha XBase, our engineers didn't begin by asking:

'How can we build a more powerful base station?'


Instead, they asked:

'Why are surveyors losing time in the field?'

Instead of relying on external radio equipment, Alpha XBase integrates a high-power 7 W radio directly into the base station.

Under normal operating conditions, communication distances can reach up to 21 km, allowing survey teams to cover larger project areas without repeatedly relocating the base.

Fewer interruptions mean more productive survey hours.



Stronger Communication Where It Matters

Distance alone isn't enough.Field conditions are rarely ideal.Trees, construction structures and uneven terrain can all weaken radio transmission.

The higher transmission power of Alpha XBase helps maintain more reliable communication in these challenging environments, improving workflow continuity where conventional integrated radios often struggle.



Power Designed for a Full Working Day

Alpha XBase is equipped with two 95 Wh hot-swappable batteries, providing more than 12 hours of continuous operation.Alpha XBase .When one battery needs replacing, the other keeps the base station running.Continuous operation means continuous productivity.
